Self-employed not saving for pensions

The Financial Times reported a survey by the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed showing that 37% of self-employed people are not saving towards a pension.
Many complain that pension schemes are not flexible enough to cope with variable incomes and contributions.

The self-employed now account for 15% of all UK workers. Our view is that they should consider pension contributions a cost of their work, since they would get an automatic contribution to a pension plan from any employer.
