Aim to boost long-term lets

At their party conference, the Conservatives announced a tenant’s charter which is focused mainly on the 1.3 million families in rented accommodation.

Among its provisions will be the ability of tenants and landlords to agree tenancies of two to five years. While this could have benefits for both parties, the government will have to persuade the majority of buy-to-let lenders to remove current restrictions limiting tenancies to a maximum of 12 months.
