The Telegraph explained why older people will not release larger properties they are not fully using by downsizing, even though many say they would like to.
First is the problem of finding a property they like, and then there is the cost of moving – made far worse by stamp duty. And the clincher is that with property prices rising, most people think they will gain more financially from owning a large property than from owning a smaller property and having cash or investments. Only changes in the tax rules can break this logjam, suggests the Telegraph.
