More details of the Government’s proposed childcare voucher scheme were announced as a consultation period started. The aim is for it to start in 2015 and offer families where both parents work vouchers worth up to £1,200 a year for childcare costs for under-5s. The scheme has been widened to include the self-employed. Older children will be brought into the scheme later. According to the Financial Times, analysts say those with more than one child on above-average earnings will benefit but those on lower incomes will be worse off as a result of earlier changes to the tax credit system.
