Critical illness policies, which pay out when the policyholder is diagnosed with one of a set of named illnesses, are getting better, says the Independent.
Industry statistics show that overall 91% of claims on these policies are paid. Improvements include less restrictions and limited payments of up to 25% of the sum assured on the diagnosis of illnesses that aren’t critical but could be if they were not treated. Over 90% of claims relate to just five categories: heart attack, stroke, cancer, multiple sclerosis and benign brain tumour.
