Changes to state pension

The government plans to alter the rules to prevent spouses claiming top-ups to the State pension based on their partner’s National Insurance record. From April 2016, only your own NI contributions will count towards State pension entitlement. If both spouses have paid a full 35 years of NI contributions, each will get the new flat-rate £144 per week. But the new rule is: No NI contributions, no pension.
