An increasing number of people are getting married to avoid inheritance tax bills, says the Sunday Telegraph.
The threshold for the tax has been frozen at £325,000 until 2018 and since the average house price in London is £430,000 many more people could be liable to tax. Rising house prices are constantly increasing the number of people liable to the tax and the potential tax bills they face. But couples – including those in civil partnerships – can benefit from double the £325,000 threshold because each will have their own ‘nil rate band’.
